Meet: Rachel

Vocalist  • Classic Comfort •  NYC

How would you describe your style?
I would say comfortable and classic with a twist. I love clothing with classic, clean lines, but have special details that make them pop or are a bit unusual. I LOVE patterns, especially with accessories (I'm a little obsessed with patterned scarves).

What led you to your career as a vocalist?
What led me to what I'm doing today, as dramatic as it sounds, was a sudden, deep realization that life really IS short and that there is no time like the present to pursue what brings you the greatest joy.

What is your superpower?
My superpower is my sensitivity.

Who inspires you and why?
Personally, my biggest influences are my two girls. Artistically, I have been deeply influenced by Judy Garland, Ella Fitzgerald, Karen Carpenter, Edit Piaf, along with any and all Broadway cast albums of the 70's and 80's.
Contemporary/pop music wise, I am a big fan of both Annie Lennox and Lady Gaga. Those ladies dig DEEP and do their own thing, all with total honesty.

We have to ask, what is your spirit animal!?
Easy! Any kind of poodle or poodle mix dog.

What was the last book you read?
Well, I'm still recovering from A Star is Born. A new favorite for sure.
As far as books, some of my favorites are The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers, Franny and Zooey by Salinger, Other Voices Other Rooms by Truman Capote, Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison, The Grapes of Wrath by Steinbeck. I love reading plays, too - especially anything by Tennessee Williams.

When do you feel most beautiful?
What makes me feel beautiful are the moments when I am completely connected to and engaged with what makes me feel most alive; my family, and my singing.
