Collection: Neighborhood Caps

Neighborhood Caps, Brooklyn Hats Embroidered on American Needle Caps

Neighborhood Caps are KIWI/fig.'s own Brooklyn hats, made for some of our favorite neighborhoods around the shop on 7th Avenue in Park Slope. Each cap carries one name, embroidered across the front.

Park Slope is home base, and South Slope continues downhill from it toward Green-Wood Cemetery. Windsor Terrace and Kensington border the southern side of Prospect Park, Gowanus and Boerum Hill lie down the hill to the west, and Crown Heights is a short trip east. The Brooklyn cap covers the whole borough for anyone whose block is somewhere else.

Every neighborhood cap is a 5-panel cap in 100% cotton washed twill, with a softly structured crown that holds its shape and a slightly curved visor. Contrasting eyelets and flat embroidery on the front panel finish each one. The Neighborhood Caps are made on American Needle hats, a fourth-generation family business in Chicago that started in 1918 importing sewing needles. In 1946, the company began selling replica caps to Chicago Cubs fans, and baseball has been its business since.

Neighborhood Caps are unisex baseball caps designed by KIWI/fig rather than sourced from another label; they are the only women's hats and men's hats in the shop built around a specific Brooklyn neighborhood. As Brooklyn gifts, they work for someone who still lives on the block and for someone who moved away years ago and kept the neighborhood anyway.
